Suggested Activities

  1. First, get out your H.A. Rey on a clear night, and start finding constellations! Try to get to the darkest place you can, and orent yourself. With the lights of Cleveland, and our poor weather, this may be difficult, but give it a try.

  2. Start a moon journal. Every clear night for a month, sketch the moon. See how its phases change. Also, see if you can spot the moon in the daytime!

  3. Start a sunset calendar. From your backyard, or any spot with a clear view of the horizon, sketch out the horizon. Then, each day, note on your sketch where the sun actually sets. Does it change its position? Does it set further to the north or the south over time?

  4. Learn about "light pollution", and what it has already done for seeing the night sky. Read the New York Times article, and go to http://www.darksky.org
