Mass-Luminosity Relationship

(pay attention - this is important!)

Okay, we have now built up our toolbox to the point where we can get masses of stars. So how is the luminosity of a star related to its mass?

Let's plot luminosity versus mass on a log-log plot:

There is a very strong correlation for normal stars. More massive stars are more luminous.

The plot has a slope of 4. Turn this into a mathematical expression relating M and L.
